swiss psychologist carl jung believed archetypes provide the foundation for our personality, our drives, our feelings, our beliefs, our motivations, and our actions.

i believe we’re each made up of a combination of multiple different archetypes.

the tarot of today is philosophical and psychological information system and a passed-down-through-human-history storytelling device that provides guidance on how to navigate the human experience with awareness and grace.

it utilizes the universal language of symbolism and its themes speak to the totality of human existence—everything we experience as humans on earth, including the hereditary and societal belief structures of western culture.

the major arcana archetypes—the primary focus of an archetypal tarot reading—tell the story of the human experience, from being taught how to be in society, to searching inward to find out who one really is, to the journey towards self-actualization and unity with the forces of life itself.

  • this archetype is said to describe your soul’s purpose, not just in this lifetime but through all your lifetimes. learning about this archetype will give insight into the qualities in yourself that you must express and use in order to feel fulfilled in whatever you do, as well as characteristics you possess that are especially helpful to you on your soul’s journey through life.

some notes on tarot’s origins 𖦹 .°.‧

the first known deck of tarot cards was created during the 15th century in Italy, during the renaissance.

it wasn’t until centuries later that occult scholars recognized the connection of the symbols on the cards to Egyptian mysteries, Hermetic philosophy, the Kabbalah, alchemy, and other mystical systems from times preceding when the first known deck appeared.

fun fact: some believe that the mystics of Egypt hid the secrets for spiritual evolution in a deck of cards because they believed in more in the human desire to play and gamble than to study sacred texts. they knew that a deck of cards that could be played as a game would survive… and it did.
